BEAUTIFUL SONG IS ON THE RADIO, IS ON THE TV SHOWS, AND PLAYS ON AND ON.
So listen: I got SUPER into this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. There were a lot of winners in there- the Ukraine and Sweden had legit catchy songs, Jedward repped Ireland in the weirdest way, and Russia brought six grannies who sang “Party For Everybody” while baking cookies- but Latvia’s entry “Beautiful Song” has been stuck in my head ever since. Its hilariously stilted English and heavy eastern-European L’s would have been enough, but its goofy guilelessness sends it right over the top. Scoff if you must, but this is what every songwriter is thinking: BEAUTIFUL SONG THAT EVERYBODY HUMS AND EVERYBODY LOVES.

Finally: Latvia makes its mark on the world.
