Duran Duran - “Union of the Snake” (1983)

From Wikipedia:

Lyricist Simon Le Bon (notoriously reticent about explaining his oblique lyrics) hinted in the Duran Duran lyric book The Book of Words that the borderline might be one between the conscious and subconscious minds. In later interviews, he proclaimed that it was a reference to Tantric sex.

When I was a kid and this video came on Nick Rocks on Nickelodeon (not allowed to watch MTV until I was a teenager), I thought it had something to do with G.I. Joe v. Cobra.

My sister and I once spent hours lying on towels in our front yard painstakingly writing the perfect letter to Nick Rocks requesting they play Heart’s “Alone.”

Anybody remember that stationery that came in packs of purple, blue, pink, maybe some brown, and each one had a theme? Music notes, hearts, puppy paw prints… it was totally something you’d find on the shelves of Over Our Heads. That’s the stationery we used, as if it would distinguish our letter from the rest of the 11 year old girls writing to Nickelodeon’s music video show in 1987.

It didn’t get played. But I get the last laugh: I have YouTube now and can play the damn song any time I want.
